KATHMANDU, April 16: A sub-regional consultation on “Prevention of HIV Among People Who Inject Drugs: Evidence, Engagement and Informed Response” has kicked off in the capital on Tuesday.
The 3-day-long consultation program, organized by UNAIDS, aims at sharing evidence, promoting engagement and creating an accelerated and informed response in regard to HIV across the participating countries.
Representatives from different communities, civil society and governments of Nepal, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh participated in the consultation program.
The participants will draw on the collective strength of countries in strategic advocacy, programatic experience, information sharing and capacity building in a pooled effort as part of ´Response Beyond Borders.´
“Prioritizing actions that produce best results for those who are most affected is essential. Difficult decisions about prioritization were made that have resulted in the Nepal HIV Investment Plan (NHIP), a few months ago. In this NHIP, people who inject drugs are the number one priority for investment,” said Dr Del Prado, director of UNAIDS for Nepal and Bhutan, in a press statement issued by UNAIDS on Wednesday.
